Somerville, MA, USA
Posted on May 26, 2023

Tulip, the leader in frontline operations, is helping companies around the world equip their workforce with connected apps, leading to higher quality work, improved efficiency, and end-to-end traceability across operations. Companies of all sizes and across industries have implemented composable solutions with Tulip’s cloud-native, no-code platform to solve some of the most pressing challenges in operations: error-proofing processes and boosting productivity, capturing and analyzing real-time data, and continuous improvement.

A spinoff out of MIT, Tulip is headquartered in Somerville, MA, with offices in Germany and Hungary. Focused on composable, human-centric solutions for industrial environments, Tulip is disrupting the MES category and has been recognized as a World Economic Forum Global Innovator. Tulip has also been named one of Energage’s Top Workplaces USA and one of Built In Boston’s “Best Places to Work” and “Best Midsize Places to Work” for 2023.

This role is based out of our Somerville, MA office on a flexible hybrid schedule.

About You:

  • You love a good challenge and learning new things.
  • You have gotten disparate systems working robustly together. If you have not already, you want to control the physical world from the web.
  • You have a strong drive to optimize software applications and infrastructure for exceptional performance
  • You are comfortable moving around a large technology stack to understand how those features work and contribute to different parts of the development process

What skills do I need?

  • 5+ years of experience in full-stack or back-end development
  • You can pick up new languages/frameworks with ease. We don’t require specific experience with the stack that we use, but we currently use Grafana and Prometheus for monitoring and run Go and Typescript services on Kubernetes
  • You can communicate as well as you can code. You understand the value of discussion and work best in a team that champions clear and frequent communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Producing clean, efficient code based on specifications
  • Ensuring the performance and reliability of the data services we build, in collaboration with other development teams
  • Testing and deploying programs and systems
  • Integrate software components and third-party programs
  • Troubleshooting and debugging in a distributed systems environment
  • Gather and evaluate user feedback
  • Recommend and execute improvements
  • Create technical documentation for reference and reporting
  • Support the build out of new performance testing framework from scratch (or using tools like k6)

About the Performance Engineering Team:

The Performance Engineering team works across Tulip's entire stack, from our custom Linux operating system to our rich browser frontend. The team uses automatic tools to ensure Tulip's software conforms to its stated specifications and performance requirements. This means finding creative ways to stretch Tulip's software to its limits - from blasting terabytes of data through Tulip's backend, to finding unique edge cases using property tests and fuzzing.

You will be part of a collaborative team that interacts with every team in Tulip's engineering organization.

Key Collaborators:

  • Engineering teams
  • QA team
  • TechOps team
  • Reliability, Infrastructure and Tooling (RIT) team
